There are close to 110 different species of lilies. These beautiful flowers not only make appearances in gardens all over the world, but in art and literature as well. Lilies are symbolic of purity and are very popular around Easter. These beautiful flowers have been making appearances in gardens for the better part of 3,000 years. While lily bulbs do not need to be dug up and stored, they can be if it's done properly. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Paper towels

Instructions

    • 1

      Dig up the bulbs carefully so as not to damage them.

    • 2

      Brush away any excess soil and wash them off with cool water.

    • 3

      Dry the bulbs with a clean dry cloth or paper towel.

    • 4

      Wrap the roots in damp paper towels or newspaper.

    • 5

      Place the bulbs in a mesh bag for storage in a cool dry place out of the sun.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is important to keep the roots damp while being stored, but not excessively wet, as this will cause them to rot.

  • Lily bulbs are toxic to cats, so be sure to store them where kitty cannot get to them.
