Fishing for fluke is an activity thoroughly enjoyed by people of all ages. If you have never caught a fluke before, here are some tips you might use to help make you successful at catching these interesting looking and great tasting fish. These tips are easy to follow and well-known to work.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fishing pole
  • Multifilament fishing line
  • Artificial lures and worms
  • Fresh bait
  • Wide gap hooks that range in size from 2/0 to 4/0
  1. Step 1

If you are using fresh bait for catching fluke, two of the best kind you can use are live killies and snappers. Use 2/0 to 4/0 wide gap hooks for attaching the live bait. Make sure when you cast out that the bait is constantly moving to increase your chances of getting a bite.

  2. Step 2

Another great way for catching fluke is to use artificial lures. One well-known one is the bucktail. The color you should choose for this lure is lime green or white and it should weigh 3/4 or 1 ounce. When you cast out, let this lure sink along the bottom and work it by using a slow jigging stroke. Then lift your pole up about 1 to 2 feet and let the lure sink to the bottom once again. Let it lie there for three seconds and repeat the whole process again.

  3. Step 3

Artificial worms work great, too. Choose one that are lime green with grub tails or white ones if you are fishing in very dirty water. Keep the worms on the small side, around 3 to 4 inches. The mouth of Flukes are not well suited for big sized worms.

  4. Step 4

Fluke tend to hit well early in the morning and at later times of the day. You can also try to fish at times and in areas where the tides and wind are both moving in the same direction or very close to it. A nice steady drift is great for catching these fish.
