How to Make a DVD From JVC Camcorder Software

JVC camcorders come with Cyberlink Power Cinema software so that you have everything you need to create DVDs from your home movies.The software is designed so that even those with little or no computer skills can competently create DVDs for family and friends. The software included is a "lite" version, but if you want more flexibility with additional features and editing possibilities to create more complex movies, upgrades are available.

      Install the Cyberlink Power Cinema on your computer. Choose "Easy Install" from the main Install menu and follow the on-screen instructions.

      Upload the videos from your camera to your computer by connecting the camera to your computer with the supplied USB cable. Turn on the camera and open the LCD screen. The LCD screen on the camera will give you several options for managing your files. Select the option "Backup" or "Backup to Computer." Select your JVC camcorder on the computer screen and click "OK." Be sure to remember the folder where you store the videos. All JVC camcorder videos will have the file extension ".MOD." Once the backup is complete, close the program.

      Open the Power Cinema (Power Director Express) program from the Start menu. Choose the "Edit" menu and click "Aspect Ratio" and select 4:3 (standard) or 16:9 (widescreen), depending on the ratio in which you recorded.

      Go to "Import" and select "Media Files." Browse to the directory where you placed your videos and choose the video files you want on your DVD. Click "Open" and your files will imported into the program.

      Drag the clips you want to use down to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

      Place a blank DVD in your burner and click "Burn to DVD" to create a DVD of your video. This process can take from several minutes to an hour or more, depending on the length of your video. This DVD should play in both computer DVD players and stand-alone players connected to your television.

Tips & Warnings

  • You must have a writeable DVD burner in your system. The Cyberlink software will not allow you to access the menus for burning a DVD unless you have a DVD burner installed. JVC offers a standalone DVD burner that can be attached to your computer or to the camera itself to burn DVDs for watching on a television set.

  • You must have Windows XP SP2 or Vista installed on your computer; Cyberlink Power Cinema is not compatible with older versions of Windows.
