How to Convert WMV to MPEG 1

Download and install AVS Video Converter. Go to the CNET download center (see Resources) and download the AVS Video Converter and install it to your computer. AVS Video Converter is free to try but you will have to pay to keep the full version. The full-version price for 2009 is $39.

Pick your WMV files to convert. Open the AVS Video Converter and find the "Input File Name" field and click "Browse" to select the WMV files that you want to convert. You can select multiple files for conversion at the same time.

Pick MPEG-1 as your output file type. Click "To MPEG" on the toolbar and then click "Edit Profile" and select MPEG-1 to set your output. If you want to change the audio and video quality, you can click on "Advanced" to do so. The default settings for each is good or standard.

Select your save location. By the "Output File Name" field, click "Browse" and select the location that you want the MPEG-1 files saved to on your computer.

Convert the files. To start the file conversion, click "Convert Now" and watch the progress bar as the files convert. The bar will fill completely and you will get a message when the conversion is complete. Click "OK" and you will be able to use the new MPEG-1 files.
