How to Add a Counter to a Website Using Microsoft Publisher
You can track the number of visitors to your website by adding a hit counter to its design prior to publishing by using unique HTML code readily available through a number of on-line resources.
Instructions
-
Select Your Hit Counter
-
1
Open your Internet browser and visit a site that offers hit counters (also known as web counters) for free such as: http://www.hit-counts.com/, http://freelogs.com/ or http://www.e-zeeinternet.com/. Or perform a web search for "hit counter" through your favorite search engine--such as Google, MSN or Yahoo--to sort through hundreds of results on your own.
-
2
Select a design compatible with your website design and content, then register to create a counter by generating its appropriate HTML code.
-
-
3
Once the HTML code is generated for the hit counter you selected, simply highlight the code and copy (Edit > Copy) or (ctrl-c).

Tips & Warnings
You may opt for an invisible hit counter, so the number of visitors is not displayed to the public eye.
In some cases, it helps to draw a rectangle where you want your hit counter placed on your web page in Publisher. In this case, after you select "Insert > html," a window prompt will open for you to paste the code in the box. Then hit "OK."
Preview your web page by clicking "File > Preview" before you publish the site, to see if the positioning of the counter is on target.
Do your research! You should not have to pay a fee to register for access to a hit counter HTML code. There are plenty of reputable resources available for free. There are also free and paid services you may consider for keeping stats and generating reports on your website traffic such as: http://www.statcounter.com/ or http://www.ritecounter.com/.
