How to Open File Extension JNLP

Java Network Launching Protocol, or JNLP, is associated with Sun Microsystem's Java Web Start initiative. JNLP files allow Java-based programs to be distributed and managed as standalone applications over a network, or via the Internet. So this protocol will enable users to deploy and install software remotely. In order to use the JNLP file extension, it is necessary to understand how to open the file.

      Make sure that Java is fully updated and enabled on the Web browser.

      Locate the JNLP file you would like to open. If the file is on the Web, you will need the URL. If it is on the network, find the file location.

      Open the Web browser, and enter the file location either as a URL or location on the network.

      Click on "Open With." This will bring up a selection of programs that will open the file.
