How to Burn a TAR File
A tape archive (TAR) file format refers to one of a multitude of file extension types. For instance, ".TAR" and ".lbr" extensions are specifically designed for archiving; while".zip" and ".gz" are used for compressed files, and ".ecc" and "par" are called upon in disaster recovery. With so many varieties, there is no guarantee that all TAR files can be opened in all operating system environments. A standard way to burn TAR files is with the El Torito bootable disc standard format, which creates discs for system recovery, runs slide shows and bypasses Windows operating environments.

Tips & Warnings
Save time and effort by planning a burn session, where all files are copied at once.
Since TAR files hold a lot of data in small packages, avoid annoying prompts of "Disk Too Full," by using new, clean DVDs instead of CDs.
