Sub-Zero is one of the fictional characters on the fighting game series, Mortal Kombat. Whether this costume will be used for Halloween, costume parties, or just to have around the house, this Sub-Zero costume is easy to make.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Locate black pants and hooded shirt, as this will be the base of the Sub-Zero costume. This Sub-Zero costume is primarily black and blue.

  2. Step 2

Cut the cardboard into a circle the size of the face. Remember that this mask needs to be large enough to cover the face, but loose enough so that the person can still breathe.

  3. Step 3

Use pictures of Sub-Zero (see References) as a guide in cutting the details of the mask. Hold the drawing up to the person who will wear it to make sure it will be the right size. Make it bigger or smaller, depending on person wearing it.

  4. Step 4

Paint the cardboard mask blue and black to resemble Sub-Zero's mask. Let this dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Use the hole puncher on the sides of the mask to make small holes near where the edge of face (close to the ear) will be. Measure the nylon rope as this will go behind the head and connect on the other side.

  6. Step 6

Cut the nylon rope and loop an each side of mask. Pull the nylon through each of the holes that were punched earlier. Start on one side of the mask, pulling the nylon threw the hole. Then pull the nylon to the other side and pull through that hole. Once the nylon is through both holes, put the mask on to ensure a good fit.

  7. Step 7

Use a measuring tape to measure the person from shoulder to waist. Now take this measurement and doubled it. These measurements will be used to create the blue V design on the Sub-Zero costume. Measure the child's waist as well.

  8. Step 8

Measure out the fabric according to the double measurement. Cut out two pieces of fabric approximately 10 inches wide and with the length at your measurements.

  9. Step 9

Take the waist measurement and measure out fabric for the belt piece. Remember, the waist should not be tight fitting, so add a couple of extra inches to the measurements.

  10. Step 10

Use a sewing machine to hem the fabric pieces. Once hemmed, you are ready to sew the pieces together. Both shoulder pieces will be sewn to the waist piece at the front and back. To do this, sew both ends of the waist piece together. To make sure the shoulder pieces are the same, pin the pieces to the waist piece. Once secure, sew the shoulder pieces to the waist piece (see Resources). The child can then put on and take off the top of the costume easily.

Tips & Warnings
  • The mask should be secure against the child's head.
