The 2008 release of the film "Iron Man" jump-started the popularity of the Marvel superhero, making an Iron Man costume suit a popular choice for costume parties and events. Making such a suit can be a complex process using several components put together, especially if you want help creating a more "muscular" version like in the film. Even after you assemble the full body suit, the helmet itself might be the most difficult piece unless you can simplify it.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gold sweats
  • Large T-shirt
  • Large compressed shorts
  • Work gloves
  • Old boots
  • Scissors
  • Red dye
  • Paintbrush
  • Urethane foam
  • Pocket knife
  • Contact cement
  • Hockey mask
  • Ski mask
  • Gold paint
  1. Step 1

Take a set of gold or yellow colored sweats or long johns. Try to find a set that's as much of a faded yellow as possible. This set will make the underlying portion of the suit.

  2. Step 2

Add an oversized T-shirt and compression shorts that can easily fit over the yellow sweats, as well as a set of work gloves and old boots. All of these need to be the same dark crimson red color. If you can't find them in the same shade, color them with crimson dye. The shirt, shorts and gloves can be dipped, while the boots will need the dye applied with a brush.

  3. Step 3

Cut the ends of the sleeves off of the T-shirt, leaving the very ends of the sleeves that connect to the shoulders. Cut off the legs of the shorts to turn them into a form of bikini briefs.

  4. Step 4

Shape blocks of urethane foam to form pectoral muscles with a pocketknife or other artistic knife. Glue these "muscles" to the inside of the T-shirt using a sturdy contact cement.

  5. Step 5

Create the helmet. There are multiple ways you can do this, but the simplest can involve a hockey mask and ski mask. Dye the ski mask the same crimson color as the other clothes, pain the hockey mask the same gold/yellow color as the sweats, then glue the hockey mask to the front of the ski mask with the contact cement.
