Using a weed eater to get to those places where the mower won't go is a great help to obtaining a perfect looking yard. Restringing a Ryobi weed eater is a task that many homeowners will have to face. It is a task that progresses smoothly with the correct trimmer line size for your machine. Once you learn the procedure, however, it won't be long before you'll be working out in the yard again.

Things You'll Need:

  • Trimmer line Scissors

    How to Restring a Ryobi Weed Eater

  1. Step 1

    Pull the empty spool out of the trimmer head. Remove any leftover trimmer line.

  2. Step 2

    Push the end of the fresh trimmer line into the retainer hole in the spool. Wind the trimmer line in the direction specified on the spool until it is full (10 to 12 feet). Push the trimmer line into the retainer clip on the spool. Trim the trimmer line 6 inches away from the retainer clip.

  3. Step 3

    Feed the end of the trimmer line through the line exit hole in the inner reel. Push the spool onto the retainer clip, or clip the cover over the spool to keep it in place.

  4. Step 4

    Fill any spare spools by repeating Steps 1 through Step 3 above.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use trimmer line that is sized appropriately for your trimmer. The line will not feed correctly if it is too large.
