Wheely King Crawler RC trucks are top of the line in their own right. However, their included servos and servo placement can leave something to be desired. So, mounting a new servo using new hardware can be a great way to improve your truck and increase its outright capabilities.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Servo mount (see Resources below)
  • New servo (see Resources below)
  • Standard tool kit
  • Soldering iron
  • Copper solder
  1. Step 1

Remove the RC's body by simply sliding its pins out and pulling the body up. Then, place the truck in a flat, elevated, accessible location.

  2. Step 2

Remove the old servo from the truck by simply unscrewing its mounting bolts and clipping off all its connections. Gently break the solders on the motor; you don't want to damage the connection surfaces themselves.

  3. Step 3

Slide the old servo mount away from the Wheely King's body.

  4. Step 4

Place the new servo mount on the front axle of the truck, and slide the new servo onto the mount. Then secure them using the four bolts and nuts included with the servo mount.

  5. Step 5

Run the servo leads to the motor, and solder them with a thick bead to the connection ends. Match up the correct wiring (positive and negative).

  6. Step 6

Connect the servo to the stock steering setup on the front of the truck, and run the wiring from the servo to the radio in the rear of the truck. Solder thickly where necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most servos are only compatible with specific hardware. So, make sure that the servo you purchase is compatible with the radio, motor and steering setup in your truck before purchasing.
  • Always use caution when working around delicate parts with an RC car. The slightest mistake can permanently damage and ruin hardware.
