Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • SBC account
  • SBC username and password
  • SBC installation disk
  • Internet router and Ethernet cables (provided by SBC)
  1. Step 1

Plug the high-speed DSL router into your phone jack. Connect the Internet router to your computer using the Ethernet cable. Both the router and the Ethernet cables are included in the welcome kit that you receive when you sign up for an SBC account.

  2. Step 2

Insert the SBC Internet installation disk into your computer. Install the SBC Connection Manager Software for future diagnostic purposes should you ever encounter problems with your Internet connection. Install any additional software that you wish to use, such as SBC's Yahoo! browser toolbar. These programs are optional but may enhance your browsing experience. Eject the disk upon completion.

  3. Step 3

Launch your web browser. You will be directed to the SBC login page. You will not be able to surf the web until you activate your account. Login with your SBC username and password (provided in the documentation included in your SBC welcome kit). Your Internet connection will be activated upon logging in.

  4. Step 4

Set up any Internet services that you wish to use from within the SBC welcome page. For example, click "My Account" to view your current email accounts and add new addresses. If you are transitioning from another Internet service provider, you can also migrate old email accounts to your new SBC membership from within your account page.
