How to Make Wooden Dog Beds

If the head snoring on your pillow isn't your own, you might want to consider ejecting your furry-faced companion to his own elevated dog bed on the floor. You will make it so cozy and comfortable that your doggy child will actually sleep there all night long and you will have a better night's sleep as well. This is a simple two-hour project.

Measure your pet's length and width and add a 4 inch ease. Have the lumber company cut out a piece of cedar for the bed. Cedar is often used to repel insects.

      • 2

Paint the bed and legs. Use 2 to 3 coats of paint. Dry thoroughly between coats

      • 3

Nail the four legs to the bed with galvanized nails.

Have the foam mattress cut to fit. Wrap it in an old sheet and secure it under the mattress with elastic sheet straps. This allows the dog's bed to be changed easily.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Elevating your dog's bed eliminates heating or cooling issues. Memory foam will be suitable for an outside kennel because it does retain enough body heat to keep an animal comfortable in cooler weather.
