Move Furniture with Sliders

Heavy furniture needs to be moved in a safe manner that minimizes the risk of sore backs, strained muscles, mashed toes and fingers and other injuries. It is always wise to recruit help for furniture moving and discuss how it will be done prior to initiating the project. There are various ways to move furniture without lifting. One way is to use sliders, which can be purchased at most business supply stores. Here is how to move furniture quickly and easily, using sliders.

    Moving Heavy Furniture

  1. Step 1

Move the furniture away from the wall far enough that it can be tilted.

  2. Step 2

While one person tilts the furniture either forward or backward, slip a slider under the two raised corners. Make sure that the cushioned sides of the sliders are facing up and the smooth plastic bases are placed next to the floor.

  3. Step 3

Raise the remaining corners off the floor and put sliders under them.

  4. Step 4

With one person pulling and the other pushing, slide the piece of furniture to its new location.

Tips & Warnings
  • The sliders can be left under the furniture so that, in the future, one person can move it from the wall for cleaning. They can also be removed from under the furniture and reused.
