How to Wire a High Pressure Sodium Security Light
A high pressure sodium light can provide an abundance of light, even in the dead of night. This makes high pressure sodium lights perfect for use as security lights. Wiring a HPS security light is a simple project that can be accomplished in about in hour provided a qualified electrician has run a wire to the location where you want to install the light. HPS lights do not work well on a motion sensor system and therefore are best left on all night. Does this Spark an idea?

- HPS Security Light
- HPS Bulb
- Yellow Wire Caps
- Ladder (if needed)
- Screw Driver
Instructions

Install the HPS Light

Choose a location where you would like your light installed.

Have a qualified electrician run a wire to the location where the light will be installed. If there is an existing fixture at the location this step is unnecessary.

Position the ladder under the location where the light will be installed.

Use the screw driver to remove the existing fixture, if there is one.

Attach the wire from the HPS fixture to the wires in the electrical box. Make sure to match the wires, following black with black, white with white and ground with ground.

Use the yellow wire twist caps to cover and insulate the exposed wire terminals.

Use the screw driver to secure the new HPS fixture to the location.

Reconnect the power and enjoy your new security light.

Tips & Warnings
HPS lights are best left on and cannot be used with a motion sensor
Disconnect the power first. Electricity can kill.

for the sake of safety... (1) turn off the power first (2) verify power is off with meter or other instrument (3) use non-conducting ladder (e.g., fiberglass)
