How to Arrange Christmas Tree Lights

A Christmas tree is best adorned with Christmas tree lights, whether they are colored, white, blinking or twinkling. After you set up your Christmas tree, string lights along the branches before you place anything else on the tree, such as ornaments or beads. The key is tucking them back into the branches, and pushing the needles through the cord spaces of the lights to make them blend in easily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Set up the tree in the specific place you want it to be. Lay out the lights in strings so you do not have to worry about them knotting together while you are trying to put them on the Christmas tree.

  2. Step 2

Pick up the end of the Christmas lights and plug it in. Provide enough slack on the cord from the outlet to a bottom edge of the tree.

  3. Step 3

Begin to loosely loop the Christmas lights along the bottom edge of the tree, a couple inches up from the bottom on sturdy branches. Keeping it even at this area, loop it once around the bottom of the Christmas tree.

  4. Step 4

Reach the place you started stringing the Christmas tree lights. Once you get to this place, bring the line of lights up 4 to 6 inches at a slant. Begin the looping process at this area just as you did in Step 3. Loop it around the Christmas tree loosely until you reach the place where you started the second string of lights further up. Once you get to this place, bring the line of lights up 4 to 6 inches at a slant again. Repeat this process until you run out of lights or reach the top of the tree. If you have extra lights at the top of the tree, continue the process by looping the lights back down the tree and place the lights between the lights you placed the first time around.

  5. Step 5

Go back to the first string of lights at the bottom couple inches of the tree. Use your fingers (wear gloves if the needles prick you too much) to tuck and thread the lights through the branches. Push them back a little further to conceal the cord. Repeat this process all the way up the tree.

  6. Step 6

Tuck smaller branches and clumps of needles through the holes in the cord around the lights to help secure the lights to the tree. Repeat the tucking of the cord until you achieve the appearance you desire of the Christmas tree lights.
