How to Convert WMV to MPEG-2
If you have some WMV files that you want to optimize for broadcast digital television as well as DVD, then you will need to convert your WMV files to MPEG-2 files. To convert WMV files to MPEG-2 files you will need a video converter program that supports both file types, such as the AVS Video Converter. Download AVS Video Converter. Visit the AVS4You website (see Resources) and download and install the AVS Video Converter. You can download and try out the AVS Video Converter for free, but you will have to pay $39 to keep the full version on your computer.

Select your WMV files. Launch the AVS Video Converter on your computer and click "Browse" by the "Input File Name" field to select your WMV files.

Select your output file type. Click "To MPEG" on the toolbar for converting your WMV files to MPEG-2 files. Click "Edit Profile" to specify that you want MPEG-2 for your output file type. You can also change your output quality settings by clicking "Advanced." The default settings for audio and video are good or standard.

Specify your output location. Click "Browse" by the "Output File Name" field to select the location on your computer that you want the MPEG-2 files saved to when they are converted.

Convert to MPEG-2. Click "Convert Now" to convert your files. A progress bar will appear by the button as the files convert. A pop-up will appear when the files are complete. Click "OK" and you can use the new MPEG-2 files.
