        The basic formula for weight loss is to burn more calories than you take in per day. The best way to speed up your metabolism and burn more calories, even while resting, is to exercise. Sit down and write out an exercise plan that you can fit in to your schedule. Make sure to plan ahead with rest days (one a week) so you'll be more likely to stick to your plan. Many people start out gung-ho on an exercise program but don't get results because they get burned out and give up all together. Planning will prevent that.

        Choose an exercise that you like doing because you will be more likely to stick to it. Running, swimming, dancing, hiking, walking, biking and working out on the elliptical machine are all great cardio exercises that will burn a lot of calories. Pick one to do six times a week for at least half an hour a day, or an hour if you want to lose weight even faster.
