Want to leave a lasting impression on a potential employer? Try out these tips!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A smile
  • A great personality
  • A mirror
  • Interview-appropriate dress
  1. Step 1

    Relax!

If you're nervous during your interview, it will show. Do some deep breathing, play a game to keep your mind off of any anxieties you might have, or talk it out with a friend the day before and the day of the interview.

  2. Step 2

    Get a good night's sleep!

Need I say anything else about this vital step?

  3. Step 3

    Make yourself pretty!

Whether you're a guy or girl, pay attention to how well you're groomed. Put on your best business attire, shower, brush your hair, brush your teeth, apply makeup, and do whatever else you must to look your best.

  4. Step 4

    Smile!

A smile will show your future boss that you're friendly and personable. Drama in the workplace is counter-productive, so do your best to put on a smile during your interview.

  5. Step 5

    Know what you're applying for!

Make sure you know exactly what's involved in the position you're applying for. Mention your prior experiences and what you're able to bring to make you the best at whatever it is they're hiring you to do.

  6. Step 6

    Make eye contact!

Making direct eye contact will help you to exude confidence. Confidence, in turn, will show that you really think you're the best man or woman for the job.

  7. Step 7

Don't talk bad of previous employers!

Many employers will ask why you left your previous job. When you explain, try to paint your departure in the best possible light. If you leave their employ, they don't want you spreading gossip about them, and if you do that with your previous employer they might want to steer clear.

  8. Step 8

If you don't get the job, repeat these steps on your next interview! :)

    Practice makes perfect, right?

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice the interview with a friend. Put yourself in both positions in order to gain more insight on the process.
  • Do whatever it takes to calm your fears about the interview. Fear, in this case, really can become a self-fulfilling prophecy!
