Sunny beaches, spring breakers, white sand, what more could you ask for? Well ok, maybe not the spring break people, but Cancun, Mexico does offer travelers a budget tropical getaway without seeming budget. Planning a trip to Mexico can be easy and take the worry out your meal planning as well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First thing you need to do before heading to Mexico or any foreign country for that matter, is to get a passport. This is now required for any travel outside of the United States to increase security. For Mexico and Canada they have just started offering a passport card. See the resources section on getting a passport or visit your local post office.

  2. Step 2

Convert some money. Go to your local bank and convert some money to pesos. For larger purchases, you may want to use a credit card, due to the protection offered and that it automatically converts the currency, but check with your card and make sure that they don’t charge you for that service. You can use the resourses below to figure out how much pesos are worth.

  3. Step 3

Lodging. When searching for lodging in Cancun , it can be a bit confusing. Do you go the all inclusive route (includes 3 meals and some snacks, and beverages – including bar beverages) or do you pay by night and eat on your own? Most travelers seem to opt for the all-inclusive route so they don’t have to worry about having to go out for food and drinks. If you are a really big drinker or eater this can work out to your advantage.

  4. Step 4

Tours . You can go on many different nature and cultural tours in the area including Chichen Itza tour, or the Xcaret island tour, or just enjoy the beach scuba diving or snokeling.

Whatever you decide research is key when planning a trip to Cancun, oh and drink bottled water.
