Things You'll Need:
- Dog
- Car
-
Step 1
When you first get your dog, even if it is just a puppy, take him or her on small rides to accommodate the pet to the idea of motion. This could be as simple as a ride to the post office or even just around the block.
-
Step 2
If your dog needs to stop pacing and going crazy while you drive, consider a kennel so the pet is settled in a confined area instead of panicking or having anxiety.
-
Step 3
When your pet travels, make a concerted effort to limit how much your dog looks out the window. By placing the smaller kennels on the floor or setting the kennel on the seat for the opening, you can stop the animal from being so sick while moving.
-
Step 4
Stop often is another step to acclimate your dog to the motion of the car. Younger dogs, especially puppies usually grow out of motion sickness but need time to adjust in-between drives.
-
Step 5
Keep the car cool while you are traveling. It could be fresh air or air conditioning, but as dogs get hot they start to become more aware of their surroundings and acutely aware of the situations. If you keep the car cool, the dog is less likely to get motion sickness.
