Do a Summer Facebook Project With Your Class

Every Summer I give the kids in my kindergarten class the opportunity to keep in touch with each other through Facebook.com, a social networking site not usually meant for kids, but if it's used properly, it is 100 percent safe. This is a great way for the kids to keep in touch as well, and for them to keep in touch with you (should you want it). I even give the kids homework and problems to solve. Here is how to create a summer Facebook project for your students.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a profile for yourself that is completely separate from your normal FB page.

    • 2

Have each parent set up a FB account for their child.

    • 3

Have each child send you a friend request.

    • 4

Explain to the families that this account is ONLY for their child's classmates and you, and they are not to accept friend requests from or send out friend requests to other people. Doing so would allow other adults/kids access to all of the correspondences between your child and his or her FB friends.

    • 5

Send status updates, pictures and even homework or problems of the day to the kids' FB pages.
