Step 1
Get a complete set of mah-jong tiles. The great thing about using mah-jong tiles is that they are virtually indestructible!
-
Step 2
Split the kids into groups of four, five or six.
-
Step 3
Have each student start with seven tiles and leave the rest in the middle of the table.
-
Step 4
Explain to the kids that the object of the game is to get rid of all of their tiles.
-
Step 5
Have each student ask the other students "Ko-Ray-Ari-Maska?" That means, "Do you have one of these?" If the student has that tile they give the other student that tile. If they do not have that tile they say "Go Sushi" and they have to pick a tile from the middle.
-
Step 6
Explain that when they have a 3 or 4 of a kind they need to lay the tiles down face up and the other kids can lay the fourth tile there if they have it.
-
Step 7
Make sure that the kids are paying attention when it is not their turn; this is how you know what tiles the other kids have in their hands.
