Oreo cookies are the number 1 selling cookies in the United States. This is over all cookie brands found in stores, and even home made cookies. Who can resist the temptation to twist off an Oreo cookie and lick the delicious center? Not me, so use this recipe to make the famous Oreo cookies in your own home!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 18.25 oz dark fudge cake mix
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 3 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 tbsp hot water
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the dark fudge cake mix, 1/3 cup water and 2 tbsp shortening. (Do not subsitute the shortening, it won't turn out right.) Knead the mixture until it is dough-like and pliable.

  3. Step 3

Cover your surface with parchment paper, and use to form balls 3/4 inches, then press flat. This will form the cookie part of the Oreo, so shape as you wish.

  4. Step 4

Place the Oreo cookies 1/2 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet and bake 4-6 minutes. (Or until cookies are crunchy.)Set the cookies aside to cool.

  5. Step 5

    OREO COOKIE FILLING
In a mixing bowl combine 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 cup shortening (again, do not substitute) and 3 tbsp hot water. Mix well.

  6. Step 6

Form the filling into 1/2" round balls. (Or 3/4" for the Double Stuffed). Put the filling in between two Oreos and squish gently until the filling reaches the edges of the Oreo.

Tips & Warnings
  • The squishing part is GREAT for kids. (If you don't mind eating broken, squished Oreos.)
