How to Look Stylish Wearing Capris

So chic in capris!

Capris...you love them, you hate them, but you might still wear them (I do). Although these chic pants were made famous by Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, they have been made infamous by those who pair them with running shoes and yikes...t-shirts! Here are a few ways to bring the Capri back to its stylish past and look as chic as Jackie did!

1. Capris come in every incarnation known to man such as plaid, drawstring, polka dots, denim. But the best choices are neutral colors such as black, white or beige, black being the best choice. Make sure the pants are cotton and slims toward the bottom. Wide leg capris give a "sailor-look" that doesn't slim the leg.

2. Pair your Capris with a form fitting top like a short sleeved knit or tailored button down shirt. This will create a chic look and people may just mistake you for a dancer! Avoid overly busy patterns and designs and keep the look tailored with a colored jacket.

3. The length is very important, so be sure to make sure the pant hits where it's supposed to. For petites (yes short girls can still wear capris!) Make sure the hem is slightly below the knee. For taller women, the length can vary slightly, but you want to make sure it hits mid-calf or it might look like they were average length pants that just shrunk!

4. Shoes are the deal breaker when it comes to looking your best in capris. The key is that since capris can sometimes shorten the leg we want to do our best to create an elongating silhouette. For taller women, ballet flats can be worn as well as high heels and kitten heels. For petites, the perfect shoe is a pointed flat with a kitten heel. Ballet flats will create a "squat" look and ultra-high heels will look odd. Another option is a mid-height peep toe in a neutral color like a metallic or bone color and a strappy, delicate flat for a casual look.
