Things You'll Need:
- a cooler with snacks and beverages
- a wagon or stroller
- pre-paid tickets
-
Step 1
If you live outside of Milwaukee County, you can buy zoo tickets at your local Parks and Recreation Department and save yourself a few bucks on entrance tickets. Call your rec department to see if they offer discounted zoo tickets. You may be surprised at how much money you can save this way.
-
Step 2
When you arrive at the zoo, park outside of the zoo, not within the zoo parking lot. As you approach the zoo by car, you'll notice about a tenth of a mile before the zoo's entrance you are able to park on the street. Within about a tenth of a mile of the zoo's entrance, you will notice no parking signs. If you can park on the street before the no parking signs, you can save yourself a ten dollar parking fee. There are no meters, and there are no limits to the length of time you can park on the street.
-
Step 3
If you are bringing kids, bring your own stroller or wagon with you. This will save you the rental fee you would have to pay to borrow one. To borrow a stroller at the Milwaukee County Zoo also requires a deposit.
-
Step 4
If you are already bringing a stroller or a wagon, it will be easier for you to bring your own cooler with snacks and beverages. The Milwaukee County Zoo offers several food vendors, but the prices can be high. The zoo allows for carry-ins of food and beverages, so save yourself some money and bring it from home!

Step 5
Finally, if you want to buy souvenirs, you can save yourself some money by buying a wax sculpture or a flattened penny, available at several machines throughout the zoo, instead of buying a pricey souvenir at the gift shop. The wax figurines cost two dollars, and the flattened pennies cost fifty cents, plus the penny.
