Things You'll Need:
- Salon shampoo and conditioner
- Hair dryer (preferably an Ionic dryer)
- Round brush
- Hair clips
- Flat iron
- Hairspray
- Frizz calming mousse
- Frizz calming hair cream
-
Step 1
Wash hair with a shampoo and conditioner designed for hair straightening (most have the word "smooth" in the name). Be careful not to tangle hair when washing. When using shampoo, scrub the scalp only, letting the shampoo run lightly over the rest of the hair during rinsing. Allow the conditioner to stay on your hair for three to five minutes.
-
Step 2
Pat hair dry with a towel. Do not wrap hair up with a towel on top of your head. This causes too much breakage in curly hair.
-
Step 3
Allow hair to air dry for 10 to 15 minutes before starting to blow dry. This will reduce the amount of time spent drying and reduce the amount of possible damage to the hair.
-
Step 4
Separate hair into four sections and clip each one up to your head. Starting with one of the back sections, use a round brush to blow dry hair straight, leaving it slightly damp. Use the round brush to pull one chunk of hair straight at a time and then aim the hair dryer at the hair, moving the flow of hot air slowly up and down the strands of hair. Repeat for all sections of hair.
-
Step 5
Apply mousse or hair smoothing cream to damp hair. You may want to experiment with different hair straightening products to decide which ones give your hair the best results.
-
Step 6
Use the flat iron to make hair not just straight but shiny and smooth. If you are in a rush, use the flat iron on just the top layer of hair to make it appear smoother. If you have time, use the flat iron on all hair to make it as smooth, shiny and straight as possible.
-
Step 7
Finish it off with hairspray. Spray lighting over hair, and then brush through. This will help hair to hold its straight style for a longer time.
