Dropbox is a software designed to facilitate and sync file sharing from one computer to the next. It’s free, simple and practical, especially when there is a need to share large files such as short videos and photos. Dropbox can be used with Windows, Mac and Linux, and you can also sync it across multiple computers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer
  • Internet
  • email address
  1. Step 1

To get started, either Google search ‘dropbox download’ or ‘download dropbox’ and click on the first link, or click on the Dropbox hompage link provided in Resources (below article).

  2. Step 2

On the Dropbox homepage click the ‘Download Dropbox’ button.

  3. Step 3

A small window will pop-up and ask you if you want to save the ‘.exe’, setup file. Click ‘Save’.

  4. Step 4

If you see a window asking if you want to ‘Cancel’ or ‘Allow’, click ‘Allow’.

  5. Step 5

You will now be asked where you want to save the Dropbox setup file (or your file will be saved to a folder that you have chosen all downloads to be downloaded to – if you have set up this feature). Choose a folder you will be able to find the setup program once it has downloaded and then click ‘Save’.

  6. Step 6

Once the Dropbox setup has downloaded, locate the file on your computer and double-click it to run the Dropbox installer.

  7. Step 7

Follow the installation instructions. You will be asked to set up a Dropbox account by providing your email address. This allows you to invite others to join and share folders with you through email invitation and notifications.

  8. Step 8

Once the installation has completed restart your computer.

  9. Step 9

Once your computer has restarted you should notice a Dropbox icon on the bottom right hand side of the taskbar. By double-clicking on the Dropbox icon the ‘My Dropbox’ folder will be opened. Here you can access the folders that you share with other Dropbox users.

  10. Step 10

To share files with someone you must first invite them to join Dropbox so that they install it to their computer. To do this right-click on the Dropbox icon found in your taskbar and click ‘Web Interface’. You will re-directed to your Dropbox account on the Internet. In your Dropbox account you can invite people to join and share folders with you.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you first open a Dropbox account you are given 2.256 GB of space. However, as you refer more people to join Dropbox you receive more space (up to 3.0 GB). You can always upgrade by paying a monthly or yearly fee. You can do this by logging into your Dropbox account online. Click on ‘Account’ and then ‘Upgrade Account’.
