How to Become a Registered Dietitian in Texas
To become a registered dietitian in Texas, you must have a bachelor's or graduate degree with one of five majors or have completed an internship and preplanned professional work approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians. Before applying for a dietitian license, you must complete the Dietitian Jurisprudence Exam over the Internet.

Obtain a bachelors degree or graduate degree with a major in human nutrition, food and nutrition, nutrition education, dietetics or food systems management. If you have not gone to college, you can complete an internship and preplanned professional experience approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.

Take the Jurisprudence Exam online. Register for the test by clicking on the link "Jurisprudence Exam" under "Resources" at the bottom of this page.

Click on option No. 1 that reads "Purchasing your exam for the first time" under "Action." Click on the green bubble with the number 1 in it.

Click on "Browse Catalog" under "New Users" if you are a new user or "Registered Users" if you have already registered with this site. Click on the link "Dietitians" under the list of available exams, then "Add to Cart" and finally "Checkout."

Log in to your account if you have already registered on this site before, otherwise open a new account by clicking "Create new user account." Fill out the required personal information.

Enter your credit card information to pay for the exam. There will be a link in your account that will take you to the Jurisprudence Exam. You can also follow the link sent to you in a confirmation email after you purchase the exam. If you need to return to the exam for completion, log in to your account and click on the link or click on the link "Jurisprudence Exam" under "Resources" at the bottom of this page and click on option No. 2, which is a blue bubble with the number 2 inside.

Fill out an application for a dietitian license from the Board of Examiners of Dietitians. Click on the link "Online Application" under "Resources." Click "Apply for New License" in the top left corner, then click "Apply Online" to complete an application online. Click the link "Apply for Your Initial License Online on the Texas Online Website."
To apply by mail, click on the link "Apply by Mail" under "Resources," then click "Download a Copy of the Licensed Dietitian Application Packet" to download the application and print it.
In your application you will need an original transcript, proof of completing the Jurisprudence Exam, a copy of your CDR card, and an application fee. If you are a certified dietitian in another state or country, you must apply for a verification of licensure from that state or country to be sent directly to the board.
