When downloading old fonts, you may find that some of the fonts are operating system specific. Depending on the font, you may be able to change it from one format to another using the right program. This won't be possible for all fonts as some characters may not transfer over in the conversion. Converting the font is worth trying and won't take very long. If it's possible to convert, you should have a font for use on your PC in just a few minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download a font conversion program, such as CrossFont. See "Additional Resources," below, for a link to the program. CrossFont is not free but does have a free trial period.

  2. Step 2

    Install and open CrossFont.

  3. Step 3

Select the font's original type in the program's "Convert From" box. You will be converting your font from this type into the PC TTF format.

  4. Step 4

Select "OTF, TTF---OpenType/TrueType Font" from the "Convert To" box.

  5. Step 5

Add your font by choosing the "Add Files" button from the top left part of the main toolbar.

  6. Step 6

Choose your font from the menu.

  7. Step 7

Select your file from the "Select Font Files to Convert" window in the program.

  8. Step 8

Hit the blue "Convert Selected" arrow from your CrossFont toolbar.
