How to Troubleshoot Well Water Pump Tanks
A pump tank is used by a well system to store water until it is needed in the home. The tank is also called a water pressure tank, because it is where the water is pressurized to give it some force to get it through the pipes. If you are experiencing water pressure issues, look at the tank to see if the condensation line on the tank is high. If it is at least 3/4 of the way up the tank, then the issue is a lack of air in the tank. Less air means less pressure. There is also a type of tank that has an air bladder containing the air within the tank. This bladder can rupture. Both of these types of air loss are best looked at by a service technician.

If your condensation line is low, check the pump and the well. Very little water is in the tank. If water is in the well, then it may be a simple matter of the pump losing its prime. Re-prime the tank by pouring water into the two openings that run piping for the pump. You will find the openings covered by plugs. Remove them and pour water down until filled. Restart the pump. You might need to do this a few times for it to work. If priming doesn't work, the pump may need to be replaced.

Check the valves running to and from the tank. If the pump is working fine and the water level is normal, it could be that sand or other debris has gotten into the tank. Check for clogs and clean them out if needed. The tank will then need to be drained and refilled to remove the debris. There should be a drain outlet for this purpose. You will also need to check the filter on the pump to make sure that more debris doesn't get through.
