Instructions

    • 1

Poke three toothpicks into the avocado pit, evenly spaced around the middle circumference of the pit.

    • 2

Fill a glass with water and place a few pieces of charcoal in the bottom. Balance the pit, flat side down, on top of the glass with the toothpicks, so just the bottom is in the water. Set where it will be warm but won't receive direct sunlight.

    • 3

Wait two to three weeks for the seed to germinate and send out root systems and stem. When the stem is about 6 inches long, pinch it back 3 inches so the roots can fully develop.

    • 4

Transplant the seedling into a pot filled with potting soil. Only bury the bottom portion of the seed, leaving the top exposed. Leave in a warm, sunny place and water often so the soil does not dry out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to move the avocado tree into a large pot before it reaches maturity to ensure strong root growth. Always sprout more than one seed since not all seeds will germinate.
