Microsoft Outlook Express is set by default to connect to MSN Messenger whenever it is opened. If you want to use Outlook Express, but you don't feel like being bothered with Messenger, you have to change the command in the Outlook Express "Options" menu that allows the program access to Messenger. Simply said, if you open Outlook Express and make a quick and easy change, Messenger will no longer open when Outlook Express does.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open Outlook Express by clicking on the "Start" icon, running the mouse pointer over "All Programs" and clicking on "Outlook Express."

  2. Step 2

When Outlook Express opens, click on "Tools" and a drop-down menu will appear on which you'll click on "Options."

  3. Step 3

    Click on the "General" tab.

  4. Step 4

Click on the box beside "Automatically log on to Messenger" to uncheck it.

  5. Step 5

Click on "Apply" and "OK" to make the changes, and close Outlook Express and Messenger. When you restart Outlook Express, Messenger won't open.
