Palm keyboards are designed so that people can type on their Palm Pilots on the go. They can be folded up so that they're about as small as a Palm Pilot or any other PDA for mobile purposes. Palm keyboards can be synchronized to devices other than PDAs. With the right accessories and software, you can use your Palm keyboard on a PC, if that's your wish.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm Desktop software
  • Palm Desktop Hotsync cable
  • Keyboard software disk
  • 2 AAA batteries
  1. Step 1

Before you begin connecting any of the Palm keyboard hardware to your computer, you first need to download and install the Palm Desktop software to make your computer compatible with the Palm hardware that you want to use (see "Additional Resources" for a link to the Palm Desktop software). Make sure you download the software that's right for your operating system or the program may not work properly.

  2. Step 2

Once you've installed the Palm Desktop software, insert the keyboard software disk into your computer's CD drive. The keyboard software comes in the package with the keyboard.

  3. Step 3

Insert two AAA batteries into the keyboard's battery compartment.

  4. Step 4

Insert the large end of the Palm Desktop Hotsync cable into the keyboard and the USB end into a USB port on the computer. The keyboard software will automatically begin the installation process once it recognizes the keyboard.

  5. Step 5

Follow each step that appears onscreen to install the software. When you're prompted to indicate the location of the keyboard drivers, select the CD drive and the drivers will install from the keyboard software disk.

  6. Step 6

When the installation is complete, your keyboard will be configured to work with your computer. You can then navigate to Notepad.

  7. Step 7

Click on the "Start" icon and run your mouse pointer over "All Programs."

  8. Step 8

Click on "Accessories" and then "Notepad," and you can type out a document with your Palm keyboard.
