How to Make Cool Text

"Cool Text" is the trade name of a web-based graphics generator that can be used to create logos, buttons or other graphics that involve text. The service is free to use at the cooltext.com website. Making text that is cool in general is subjective but can be done with any graphics application that has special-effects filters. How "cool" your text is depends simply on the level of design and creativity you put into it.

Instructions

Using Cooltext.com

1. Navigate with your web browser to the CoolText.com website.

2. Choose a logo style or button-design style from the home page.

3. Enter the text for your logo or button, then choose the font, font size and other style attributes from the choices on the web page. All directions are clear and easy to follow.

4. Choose a File Format for your logo or button from the File Format drop-down menu at the bottom of the web page. PNG is the default choice. Other choices include GIF, JPG, PSD and XCF, with some background transparency options as well.

5. Click the "Render Logo" button to create your Cool Text graphic file. A progress screen will show how many jobs are ahead of yours. The process moves quickly.

6. 

   Click the "Download Image" link when the screen showing your graphic appears to transfer the graphic to your computer.

Using a Graphics Editing Application

1. 

   Open the graphics editing software. The example shown is Adobe Fireworks, a program designed specifically for creating web graphics.

2. Click the Text Tool in the tool palette. It tends to have a large letter on it in most graphic packages.

3. Click on the editing screen and type your text.

4. Click and drag over the text to select it and use the text properties palette to adjust font, font size, colors and styles.

5. Click the Select Tool in the toolbox (usually a black arrow) and click to select the text object.

6. 

   Choose a special-effects filter from your graphics application. In Fireworks, the filters are found in the Properties palette at the bottom of the screen. The example shown here uses the "glow" filter.

7. Save your file and you now have some "cool text" to use on your website.
