Use a Digital Embroidery Machine

Digital embroidery machines save a lot of time and allow for much more personalization and detail in adding embellishments and designs to fabric. Older versions of embroidery machines only had preset stitches and required freehand sewing design. Most, if not all, digital embroidery machines should come with their own software which includes preset images and shapes. The software can be used to customize existing images and create new designs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital embroidery machine
  • Embroidery software
  • Fabric
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Select a project. Knowing what item you are designing for helps keep in mind size and style options.

  2. Step 2

Customize the design. The software should come with options and you could choose one of those, create your own, or even purchase one.

  3. Step 3

Transfer the image from the computer to the embroidery machine. This is usually done via a USB cable.

  4. Step 4

Stabilize the fabric. This determines the tension and is important in assuring the image comes out properly on the fabric.

  5. Step 5

Thread the embroidery machine. Depending on the complexity of the machine, you may be able to thread some or all of the colors in ahead of time; if not, you will need to change it as the machine is ready to move on to the next color.

  6. Step 6

Start the embroidery process. Depending on the complexity of the design, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
