Instructions

    • 1

Remove the carburetor from the motorcycle, and clamp any hoses running from the motorcycle's gas tank using standard quick-connect hose clamps. This will keep all the gas from leaking out of your tank.

    • 2

Remove the top of the carburetor by loosening and removing its mounting bolts using a Phillips screwdriver. Gently pull the top away from the rest of the carburetor assembly, being sure to keep the seal sticking to the carburetor lid.

    • 3

Dump the contents of the carburetor in a bucket or other container to be disposed of properly in accordance with local law. Shake out as much of the sludge in the carburetor as possible.

    • 4

Soak and wipe the insides of the carburetor using a clean rag and soapy water. Run plenty of the water through the carburetor, trying to wash it out as completely as possible.

    • 5

Use an air compressor to effectively blow out all the valves in the carburetor. Small blower tips work the best for this task. By simply acquiring a good seal around the valves, you can easily blow out all the sludge and other contaminants out of the carburetor.

    • 6

Rinse the entire carburetor assembly out with a hose. Be sure to remove all leftover soap and cleaner residue.

    • 7

Set the carburetor in a dry, clean place, to dry in the sun. Allow it to dry for two to three hours before continuing.

    • 8

Carefully place the top back on the carburetor, making sure to align the seal as perfectly as possible. Reattach and tighten the carburetor's mounting bolts with a Phillips screwdriver.
