If you have downloaded files from iTunes in the M4V format and want to make them more compatible with some of your other portable electronic devices you can convert your M4V files to WMV files. To convert your M4V media files to WMV files you will need to use a converter software, such as Tunebite Platinum. It is a very simple process to convert M4V to WMV, and you will not need to have any technical knowledge to convert your files.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tunebite Platinum converter software
  1. Step 1

Download and install Tunebite Platinum. Download Tunebite Platinum from the Soft29 download center (see Resources). Soft29 has picked Tunebite Platinum as one of the best converter programs available on the market. It is free to download and try out the software, but you will need to pay for the full version; 2009 pricing is $39.90. Once you download the software you will need to run the installation wizard to install it to your computer.

  2. Step 2

Set your sound card and recording settings. When you open Tunebite Platinum on your computer for the first time you will need to set your sound card and recording settings by clicking "Auto Detect" and then "Next" to move through the setup to audio formats.

  3. Step 3

Set your audio output settings. The default audio setting is "OGG" which is the highest quality but you can also select either "MP3" or "WMA." If you are not planning on doing any audio file conversions with the program then you can leave the default "OGG" selected. Click "Next" to continue to MP3 configuration and select "Import lame_enc.dll" and then click "Next" to go to output settings.

  4. Step 4

Set your video output settings. Click on "WMV" to set your video output settings to WMV. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete your settings configuration.

  5. Step 5

Add you M4V files. Click on the "Add" button to add the M4V files that you want to convert. You can select multiple files to convert all at once if you want.

  6. Step 6

Start the conversion. Click the large "Go" button in the middle of the screen to start your M4V to WMV conversion. The software will convert the file according to the settings you configured. The "Go" button will change to "Stop" while it is converting and you will see a progress meter at the bottom of your screen. When the conversion is complete the "Stop" button will change to "Done" and then you will be able to use your new WMV files.
