How to Be Great at Shooting Basketball

To be a great shooter in basketball you must establish a sound shooting motion. In order to establish a good shooting routine you must know the proper form of shooting a basketball.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketball
  • Basketball goal
  1. Step 1

    Stand with your feet flat on the ground, no wider than your shoulders, and your shoulders and toes pointing toward the basket.

  2. Step 2

    Bend your knees.

  3. Step 3

    Lift the basketball over your head with the ball in front of you and the elbow on your shooting arm bent and pointed toward the rim.

  4. Step 4

    Keep the basketball on the fingertips of your shooting hand and not on the palm of your hand.

  5. Step 5

    Hold on to the side of the basketball with your non-shooting hand to keep the ball on your shooting hand.

  6. Step 6

    Keep your eyes on the basketball goal, aim to shoot the ball just over the front rim of the basketball goal.

  7. Step 7

    As you jump, straighten your elbow, release the ball with your non-shooting hand and flick your wrist with your shooting hand and release the ball at the height of your jump.
