How to Make Pipe Tobacco Cigars

Rolling pipe tobacco in a cigar is not as obsolete an idea as one would first think. Many pipe tobacco fans prefer to occasionally roll a cigar to enjoy the art as well as experience a new taste from the tobacco they appreciate most.

Things You'll Need

• Cigar leaf
• Pipe tobacco
• Grinder or blade
• Cigar glue

Instructions

1. Shred the tobacco to a uniform size and density. This is necessary if you have chosen a leaf pipe tobacco or one in a ribbon form. Choose a shag cut or shredded tobacco to have less shredding of your own to do. Use scissors, a blade or a tobacco grinder to shred to consistent size.

2. Place the shredded tobacco on a paper towel and allow to air dry for up to an hour. Pipe tobacco is moist and does not burn well in a cigar leaf if it is fresh. Stir the tobacco around occasionally.

3. Pick a type of cigar leaf to roll the cigar that is thin and lightweight. You can choose flavored leafs if you'd like to flavor the taste of the smoke. If you prefer to taste only tobacco, chose an unflavored cigar leaf.

4. Lay the cigar leaf on a flat and dry surface. Sprinkle the dried pipe tobacco onto the cigar leaf. Use enough tobacco to make a cigar no more than an inch thick. Too much tobacco will make a cigar that will not stay lit and be very hard to smoke.

5. Wrap the leaf around the tobacco and feel along the length of it for bulges and empty spots. Gently roll the lumps out with your fingers. Pinch the cigar at one end and work down any other lumps, weak spots and inconsistencies. Seal the leaf with cigar glue. Most cigar glues are a mixture of Bermacol powder and several drops of water. Use the glue to seal the cigar from one end to the other by applying a thin layer along the seam and pressing firmly for several minutes.

• You can add a wrapper leaf around the cigar to flavor the smoke and give the cigar a more professional look.
