Sometimes, however, you can end up with tiny scratches on the surface of your glass that slightly obstruct your view, whether it is a window, a glass cabinet door or a glass tabletop. You will most likely need a professional scratch repair kit to repair scratches that are deep enough to insert your fingernail. Things You'll Need

  • Toothpaste (paste or cream, not gel)
  • Soft lint-free cloth
  • Paper towel
  • Razor blade

Instructions

  1. Buffing Out the Scratch

    • 1

      Apply your toothpaste to a paper towel and smear the toothpaste over the area of the scratch. Be sure to cover the scratch.

      Buff the scratch out by lightly rubbing the toothpaste over the scratched area of the glass in circular motions for at least 30 seconds.

      Clean the remaining toothpaste off the glass by wiping with a damp cloth or with a mix of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and a paper towel.

      Repeat this process if you can still see the scratch.

    Filling in the Scratch with Toothpaste

      Smear your toothpaste over the scratch on the glass.

      Let the toothpaste completely dry on the glass.

      Scrape the excess dried toothpaste from the surface of the glass with a new razor blade. Be careful not to add new scratches.
