How to Take Measurements for a Bra
Many women wear the incorrect bra size because they don't know the proper way to take measurements for a bra, or they haven't taken measurements since a significant body change. There are two distinct measurements that must be taken: the band and the apex. Together, these measurements will reveal your correct bra size. Your bra size will change several times throughout your life, and if your current bra doesn't feel like a good fit any longer, it may be time to measure again.

1
Stand up straight and bring the measuring tape around your back. Keep your arms down to your sides, and measure just under your breast at the top of your rib cage, making sure the measuring tape is level all the way around.
-
2
Add 2 inches to the measurement if it is an even number. Add 3 inches to it if it is an odd number. The resulting number will be your bra band size. For example, if your measurement is 33 inches, you'll add 3 inches to get a total of 36 inches.

Stand up straight and bring the measuring tape around the fullest part or apex of your bust. This point is usually right around the nipples. You can take this measurement with your bra on, if desired, and the result will be your bra apex measurement.

4
Determine your cup size by comparing your bra band measurement with your bra apex measurement. If your apex is 1 inch larger than your band, you are an A cup. Two inches larger is a B cup, 3 inches larger is a C cup, 4 inches larger is a D cup, and 5 inches larger is a DD cup.

Tips & Warnings
When purchasing a bra, remember that not all manufacturer's products are going to fit the same. Your bra measurement is a good indication of the size you'll need, but you may need to try on several different brands to find the best fit for you, as with any piece of clothing.
