How to Install a Volvo Xc90 Headlight
Provided you have all the right parts, you can install a headlight assembly on a Volvo Xc90 in under five minutes. There is no need to remove any parts from the car during the installation process. The only truly challenging part is finding the threaded holes on the back of the headlight assembly when you can't really see them. These instructions are valid for both the 2.5L and 6L versions.

1
Buy a headlight assembly that is specifically designed to be compatible with your model year of Xc90. The 2.5L and 6L Xc90s of the same model year will use the same type of headlight assembly, but not all Xc90s are compatible with the same headlight assembly design. You can buy this part from a dealer, auto parts store or private seller.
-
2
Make sure the engine is off and the key is not in the ignition.
-
-
3
Open the hood and prop it open.
-
4
Check your headlight assembly and the packaging it came in for two flat bars that fit on the back of the assembly. If these have been pre-installed on the back of the assembly, remove them both by pulling firmly toward the top of the unit.
-
5
Carefully slide the headlight assembly part of the way into place by pushing it straight into the headlight cavity.
-
6
Look directly behind the headlight assembly for the wiring harness that connects to it. It is a black plastic plug dangling from a short, thick, black cable. Plug this into the corresponding socket in the back of the assembly.
-
7
Push the assembly the rest of the way into place.
-
8
Install the two flat bars into their corresponding tracks on the back of the assembly. Both of them slide into the tracks from the top down.
-
9
Turn on the lights to make sure they work.
