Instructions

    • 1

Connect your Motorola cell phone and your computer to one another using the appropriate USB data cable.

    • 2

Load the latest version of BitPim. Some Motorola cell phone versions will auto detect and others will not. If your cell phone is not automatically detected by the software, then you will have to manually set it. Select "Settings" under the "Edit" drop-down menu, select your phone type and then select the appropriate port by clicking "Browse" located next to the field. The two things that you should be looking for are $Phone CDMA USB Modem #X and (*) $Phone CDMA USB Serial Port (COMxx), where $Phone is the name of the manufacturer, and COMxx is the virtual port that the driver will be installed as. Choose the appropriate port number, and click "OK."

Save the audio files you want to use as ringtones as 16-bit 44.1 KHz WAV files that are approximately 15 seconds long for the best results.

    • 4

Select ringers by expanding the media tree in BitPim's left pane, and press the "add ringtone button," which appears as a double cleft note with a plus symbol. Select the appropriate audio file when the choose file dialog box appears, and press "Open."

    • 5

Choose MP3 for the file type, and choose the appropriate sample rate. If you want a high-quality ringtone, choose a 44100 sample rate, or 32000 for a decent-quality ringtone or 22050 for a fair-quality ringtone file. Set the channel to 1 to create a mono ringtone for your Motorola cell phone.

    • 6

Bring up the conversion command prompt by clicking "Convert." Listen to a sample of your audio file as soon as this prompt disappears, and press "OK" when you are satisfied with what you hear.

    • 7

Complete the process by clicking "Send Data to Phone," then press "Add" and "OK" so BitPim will transfer the ringtone to your cell phone. When the indicator turns green, the file is successfully transferred to your cell phone.

    • 8

Close the BitPim software, disconnect your cell phone from the data cable, and reboot your cell phone so the new ringtone sound file will appear.
