How to Repair a Broken Toilet Paper Holder

There's nothing more frustrating than the toilet paper holder falling apart, particularly when you need to use it. Some toilet paper holders are built into walls and require a similar holder if you want to replace it. This is somewhat of a task to find and may warrant repairing the old toilet paper holder. If you have an inexpensive chrome holder or wooden holder that simply screws onto the wall, it might be quicker to simply purchase another. These normally are very inexpensive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find out what's wrong with the holder. Normally one of two things goes wrong with the toilet paper holder: Either it comes off the wall, or the tube on the inside no longer holds in place.

  2. Step 2

Check out the spring on the inside of the tube. If you have a toilet paper holder that has a spring in the center of the roll that holds the toilet paper, it might be broken if the inner area no longer squeezes together and springs back to fit in the opening. Either look for a new insert with a functioning spring, or find a new spring that matches the one inside the tube.

  3. Step 3

See if the end is broken. The tube that holds the toilet paper normally has a small tab on both ends that fits into the slot for the toilet paper. If one end is broken, you have two options. One is to find the missing section and glue it down. The other option is to purchase an inexpensive plastic replacement tube.

  4. Step 4

Check the connection at the wall. Sometimes the two sides connect to the wall independently. If one side is loose, it doesn't hold the tube for the toilet paper in place. Tighten the screw. If it doesn't tighten, you may need to remove it and put a drywall anchor in the hole and then attempt to screw the side down to the wall anchor.

  5. Step 5

Find the loose screws. If the toilet paper holder is dangling from the wall, then you definitely have a problem with the way the toilet paper holder anchors to the wall. Take the entire toilet paper holder off the wall and see if you have stripped areas. Again, a plastic wall anchor gives extra durability. This doesn't mean the kids can hang on the toilet paper holder, but it should suffice for normal wear and tear.

  6. Step 6

Use glue to repair a ceramic toilet paper roller or wooden one. If it cracked or broke, you can repair the damage with glue. The glued seam won't show once the toilet paper is on the roller.
