How to Make a Snowboard Box Rail
A snowboard box rail is a piece of equipment featured in many freestyle snowboard parks and is used to slide across and do tricks on while riding a snowboard. The most common box rails are built of wood and have a metal railing used for sliding across. Making a snowboard box rail can be completed in a few hours and provides a piece of long lasting equipment for use each winter season.
Things You'll Need
- 7 wood beams, 2 by 4 inches by 10 feet
- 3 sheets plywood, 4 by 8 feet
- 1 box 3-inch-long wood screws
- 1 electric drill
- 1 metal plumbing pipe 10 feet long by 3 inches in diameter
- 1 drill bit for metal 1/2-inch diameter
- 1 drill bit for metal 3/8-inch diameter

1
Cut four pieces of 2-by-4-inch wood beams to a length of 2 feet. Cut four pieces of 2-by-4-inch wood beams to a length of 4 feet. Cut four pieces of 2-by-4-inch wood beams to a length of 10 feet. These beams will serve as the framework of the box rail, which will be covered by plywood.

2
Cut two pieces of plywood to the dimensions of 10 by 2 feet. Cut two pieces of plywood to the dimensions of 4 by 2 feet. Cut two pieces of plywood to the dimensions of 10 by 4 feet. This plywood will serve as the covering that will be attached over the framework built from the 2-by-4 wood beams.

3
Attach the ends of two of the 2-foot-long beams to the ends of two of the 4-foot long beams using the electric drill and 3-inch-long screws to create two separate rectangles measuring 2 by 4 feet.
-
4
Connect the two rectangles measuring 2 by 4 feet using the four 10-foot-long wood beams. Attach the 10-foot-long beams at each corner of the rectangle using the drill and 3-inch-long screws thereby creating a three-dimensional rectangular box frame measuring 4 by 10 by 2 feet.
-
5
Attach the plywood to the three-dimensional rectangular frame using the electric drill and 2-inch-long wood screws. Attach the piece of plywood that corresponds in size with the size of the rectangle side you are working on. For instance, attach the 2-by-4-foot piece of plywood to the 2-by-4-foot side of the frame and so on and so forth until you have created a three dimensional wooden box.

6
Drill a 5-½ inch in diameter holes in the metal pipe in a straight line along its length. Using these five holes as access points, drill five more pilot holes 3/8 inch in diameter in the opposite side of the metal pipe.
-
7
Attach the 10-foot-long metal pipe along the 10-foot-long edge of the wooden rectangular box. Use the ½-inch wide holes in the metal pipe as access points through which to screw 3-inch-long screws through the 3/8-inch-wide pilot holes.

Tips & Warnings
For a lighter box rail, refrain from attaching a bottom piece of plywood to the box and use plastic pipe.
Secure the box rail to the snow before use to prevent sliding.
