How to Build a CD Duplicator

If you burn a lot of CDs, say, because you have a band, you can speed up the process with a CD duplicator that allows you to burn many copies of a disc at one time. You don't have to buy a duplicator or even a new computer system to have your own CD duplicator at home. You can make one from an old computer.

Ensure that your system has the power to burn multiple CDs at one time: 300 watts, 400 MHz and 128 MB of RAM will be enough. You need only 40 GB of space to duplicate multiple CDs at one time.

    • 2

Make extra ports on your motherboard. It is possible that your motherboard will have enough empty ports for the number of drives you want to attach. If your CD burner connects to anything other than a SATA port, though, you probably need a converter. If your burner uses an IDE attachment, you can make your IDE device work with a SATA port by using an IDE to SATA converter.

Buy a new case if your old one lacks bays for extra drives. All of the internal components will need to be transferred from the old case to the new one.

    • 4

Install an extra fan or two. Multiple CD burners operating at one time create a lot of heat. Additional fans will help keep the temperature down and your computer in top working order.

    • 5

Use CD burners that are the same make and model. This way the burners will all have the same writing process and write speed.

    • 6

Install software that allows you to burn to more than one drive at a time. Nero leads this field. Its "Burn to Multiple Recorders" feature permits writing to numerous drives simultaneously.
