An FTP is a "File Transfer Protocol." This is a simple method for downloading files from one location to another. You can use the FTP for PC-to-PC connections or from an FTP site. You can log onto an FTP site through a special client or your Internet browser. Most browsers support the FTP protocol. Several FTP sites offer games, videos and applications for download. Usually, they are freeware software without copyright infringement. However, some FTP sites present illegal copies of movies and software applications.

With SmartFTP, insert the user information next to the address bar, "Login" and "Password." For a public site, select the "Anonymous" button. Click the arrow next to the "Address" bar to connect.
