When applying to college, graduate programs or employment at certain institutions or agencies, there's a good chance that you will need to provide a certified copy of your school transcript. Requesting a transcript is typically a fairly straightforward process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Address of requesting school/employer
  • Check, credit card or other form of payment
  1. Step 1

Before ordering your transcript, be sure to gather any addresses that you need the transcripts sent to. Doing so will make the process go faster.

  2. Step 2

To request a high-school transcript, contact the guidance department or main office of the high school you attended. You may be able to request a copy of your transcript online, but more likely you will need to call your high school.

  3. Step 3

To request a college transcript, contact the registrar's office of your college or university. You will most likely need to make the request by mail or fax.

  4. Step 4

When sending in your transcript request, make sure that you include any required fees. Oftentimes, multiple transcript requests require multiple fees.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow plenty of time for your transcript request to go through. Some schools may offer a rush service if necessary for an extra fee. Some institutions or agencies require the transcripts they receive to arrive sealed with the registrar's signature and university seal placed over the envelope seal. Check whether the transcript you are requesting requires this special treatment.
