How to Make a Disco Ball Cake
Are you planning on throwing a '70s themed party? Do you have all of the decorations and just need the perfect cake? This disco ball cake is just what you are looking for. It will take a few days of work, so start early. The finished product will be worth all of your effort. Your guests will be dazzled by your shiny, groovy cake.
Things You'll Need
- Sports ball cake mold
- Small dowel rod
- Icing
- Fondant
- Rolling pin
- Fondant cutter
- Corn starch
- Soft paintbrush
- Silver luster dust

Roll out the fondant into a thin sheet on a surface coated in corn starch. Use the cutter to make small squares with 1 inch sides. Do this 2 days before you bake the cake, allowing them to dry.

Bake the cake following the directions on the package on the sport ball cake mold. When it is cool, insert a dowel rod into the cake for support. Then put a layer of icing on the cake.

Roll out more fondant, cut a circle that is 3 inches in diameter for the top of the disco ball, and attach.

Dust the cornstarch off of the squares using the paintbrush. Attach them to the cake starting at the bottom and working up making a straight line vertical line. In some places you will have to use scissors to make the pieces fit.

Let the cake sit overnight to ensure that the pieces are set. Then dust the whole cake with the silver luster dust following the directions on the package.
